“Room by Room”

Did you ever watch this program on HGTV? I  loved Matt and Shari and the way they transformed a room. Shari decorated and Matt did small projects, like shelves and light fixtures. They still have a website HERE !

Well, I’m not redecorating but I am going ‘room by room’. Whenever I am at the condo I love living with less ‘stuff’. I mean the condo is FULL…but not over stuffed like my house. So I was anxious to get back and ‘lighten up’. I am usually so overwhelmed when I get in this ‘mood’ so I decided this time to make myself do one room at a time.

So that’s what I’m doing. I started with the master bath….one day. I spent 2 days on my bedroom and today I am working on the living room. And of course I’m cleaning as I go!

I’ve taken one load to the thrift store and that felt good. But of course while I was there…I looked around! lol

Don’t you love this old jewelry box?

PMDSCN6312

(and yes, I see the sock monkey in the background…what can I say? I never put all my toys away! lol)

And the neatest thing was what was inside!

PMDSCN6315

It still had the key to the lock.

Oh, and while I organize my jewelry, I can listen to the radio…it works!

Do you remember carrying your little transistor radio everywhere you went? I slept with mine, listening to KVRC while I went to sleep!

I’m joining Time Travel Thursday ,

and Thrifty Things Friday!

Yes, I watched that show and loved it. :) Matt and Shari would be proud of you for decluttering. You sound like my hubby when it comes to keeping some of the old things. He'd keep that radio too.

Miss Lavender Dreams,

Now wait a minute - okay, you donated things to the thrift store but then you shopped? Huh?

I'm helping Mom clean out stuff too, we call it "moving". (o:

Hi Miss Wendy,

Your Mom isn't putting you up for adoption is she? Maybe you should come and stay with me until she is finished "cleaning out". (o:

They should let you trade, hah. I would do the same thing. I try to bring in less than I get rid of.
When we had two homes the lake cottage was furnished very simply.

Simpy doesn't sound right, but you know what I mean.

I sooo remember transistor radios-thought they were the coolest things ever! I had a jewelry box that was very similar when I was in my late teens. xo Diana

I loved watching Matt and Shari. They were a great team. I sure miss them.
I need to start decluttering myself. Having kids the stuff seems to multiply overnight.
My sister still has a jewelry box like that :)

Great finds. I remember my first transistor radio and how I thought it was the most wonderful thing that was ever invented.

I miss that show. I never watch HGTV any longer. They have no decorating shows I like any longer.

I do remember my first transistor radio and still have one in case of power outage. I reminisce often with my little treasures from the past--memories, XOXO

Yes, I loved that show! I wish they'd have more of that kind of decorating on HGTV. Now it's all about selling or buying a home. I use to carry a transistor radio everywhere. Now I use my IPod and listen while crafting, walking or just cleaning around the house. Gotta keep up with technology!

Hugs,
Pat

I had a jewellery box exactly the same except that it was light blue. I likely have the key but not the box. It is a fun and inexpensive hobby to go browsing and remembering the things that used to be part of our everyday lives. Good luck as you try to make progress sorting and deleting!

Diane, I loved that show! It was one of THE FIRST decorating shows on TV. They were a little goofy, but had great ideas and inexpensive, too! And oh my gosh....I LOVE your jewelry box. It looks just like one I had years ago....the same color, even! And yep, had a transistor radio, and also slept with it close to my ear! My station was an AM station in St. Louis. (I don't think FM had even been invented yet!! HA!) Mine was KXOK. DJ was Johnny Rabbit and his crazy side-kick Bruno. They also had a morning bit called Chicken Man that was REALLY stupid, but everyone laughed anyway. Kind of like Batman! I'm sure it was syndicated, so I bet there are others out there who remember it, too! Good for you for cleaning. I've actually fit a bit of that into my life, even with all my writing! Have a wonderful rest of the week, and weekend!

I loved that show, I didn't know they had a web site, thanks!
Oh, you didn't buy something at the Thrift Shop when you took stuff there, I thought I was the only one that did that!! :-)

Good for you for going room to room. (I do remember that show) You will feel great when you have each room fixed up, cleaned up and organized the way you want it to be.
I just finished up my 366 clear out challenge for the year, and still have enough "stuff " to continue with a 365 challenge next year too. Partly because my tastes have changed over the years and I don't really care about some of the things I used to love. I bet we all went through a country-victorian stage in the 80's. ;-)

Oh I remember those radios, and then you would fall asleep, and the batteries would run out....lol.

Good for you for cleaning up, that's a great feeling when it's done.

I love the jewelry box. I have one very similar I found a few years ago and keep the vintage jewelry in it. I am like you I donate and then go in!!! Even here taking Mom's stuff to the thrift shop, I went in! It's an addiction I tell ya!

LOVED that show. I had recently discovered their website too. I spent a lot of time there one morning getting re-acquainted with Matt and Shari. :) I miss them. Shari has a recipe for a vegetable soup in the recipes section. It is soooo good.
I can relate to your wanting to look around while donating your things to the thrift shop. I'm always tempted, but have done much better about not bringing things home since I did my big de-cluttering.

I remember room by room. She was big on the country look but they always had ideas that were doable for the common man.

I loved my little radio when I was a child. It was red and I took it everywhere with me. I was extra chuffed because mine came with a set of headphones.
Thankyou for visiting my blog and for leaving your sweet comments. I adore old books too, especially Enid Blytons x

I donate/shop all the time. Clean not so much, sadly. I listen to my Joe's radio from 1972 everyday-it has fabulous sound. xo, olive

OH! How I LOVED that show...Room by Room taught me so much about decorating and Shari encouraged me to not be afraid of BLACK, and now, well...I have black accents/furniture all over. And Matt...well who wouldn't want him around to do all those little projects!? Why do all the good shows go off the air :-( Darn HGTV thought we would prefer watching House Hunters! ugh.

One room at a time is a great idea. Even in our small spaces. Yes, I remember transistor radios and falling asleep listening. .

I used to watch that show! I haven't even thought about it in ages. My home could certainly use some more cleaning and dusting, but my clutter is at a minimum :)

Oh I used to love that show!!!

Hi Diane, I think you do the same things I do when I start feeling the walls closing in on me. I purge all the time. And I too walk thru the thrift store but I have a rule. Something has to go for every new thing I bring in the house. It has helped with the clutter.

My grandmother had a jewelry box like that one and she always let us play in it. So when my daughter was little she played in her grandmothers and now I have gone out and bought a pink jewelry box made of the same material as yours and I filled it full of costume jewlery for my granddaughter to play in. She loves it! Have fun! Hugs~Ames

Guess I've been going "room by room" and decluttering too. I loved their show.
I've taken a few bags to the Goodwill and I'm sure there will be more. I also need to go through my Christmas decorating stuff...want to down sized that too.
Pretty jewelry box.

Cindy
